Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I charged Annual Assessments?
Sugar Springs is a property owners association (POA) by Michigan Law and is supported by annual dues assessed to all lots. The assessments cover POA operation expenses such as maintenance of the buildings and commons areas, administration, airstrip, beach clubs, lakes quality, building projects and other amenities.
What should I do if the ownership of my lot changes?
Please forward a copy of the recorded deed to the SSPOA office (5477 Worthington Court
Gladwin, MI 48624) as soon as possible.
Why do I need I need my membership card?
When you pay your general assessment, you receive a membership card to show you are in good standing for the year. Showing your card at the time of use entitles you to member rates. Property owners not in good standing do not receive member rates and may not use any of the amenities as a member of Sugar Springs.
Can other people use my membership card to use the amenities?
No, membership cards are for the named users only. Guest passes are available through the SSPOA office for friends and family.
If I have guests, can they use the amenities?
Yes, a member may contact the SSPOA office for guest passes. They entitle your guests to a parking pass for the beach areas and to reduced user fees. You, as a member are responsible for your guests; please make sure they understand our rules and what is expected of them. Guests may not purchase gate cards and are not entitled to full member privileges.
May I camp on my lot?
That depends. Camping is not allowed in Islanders Realm and in Highlanders Realm #3 or if there is a home on your lot. Otherwise, you may camp on your vacant lot after you first register at the SSPOA office. The registration is important so that we can monitor the number and identity of units and prevent unauthorized camping by unknown people.
Why are there gates at the beach clubs?
To discourage the use of the facilities by unauthorized people, gates are installed at “members only” areas. Members may purchase up to two (2) gates cards per membership for a small fee at the SSPOA office.
