THE ANNUAL GOOSE ROUNDUP
The Sugar Springs Lakes Committee, and our volunteer group, conduct an annual "Goose Roundup" in efforts to reduce our local goose population.
The roundup is typically conducted in late June with the assistance of Goosebusters, our DNR certified contractor. Volunteers are always needed both on land and on the water – with PWCs and pontoons to coax the geese from the water to the shore so we can collect them. A volunteer sign-up sheet is available in the POA office in the days leading up to the event. Start time is typically 7:00 am, and we meet in the township parking lot. Details are confirmed with all volunteers ahead of time.
Every effort is made to limit our goose activities to commons areas. There is always a chance that the geese may not cooperate and lead us onto private property. If this occurs, we will approach the homeowner, requesting access and respect their wishes as it pertains to their property. If you DO NOT want to allow access to your property, please contact the POA office so we can have your address on record.
FYI – Canada geese are a federally protected species and are never harmed or abused. DNR rules and guidelines are strictly followed during the entire roundup process. Once the geese are collected, they are placed in cages and transported to designated DNR sites.
Thanks in advance to all our wonderful volunteers. Your time and effort make it possible for us to successfully conduct many projects that benefit Sugar Springs and our precious eco-system.
