THE SUGAR SPRINGS WATERSHED
Here are some educational facts on the big picture, our Watershed, that can benefit us all.
A Watershed is the entire geographic area that drains to a common water body.
Did You Know…
- All Sugar Springs Property is a watershed.
- The water quality of our watershed is influenced by how our land is used.
- All of us play a vital role in the responsible stewardship of our watershed.
What can YOU do?
- Use phosphorus-free fertilizer (ensure your yard service company is).
- Keep compost piles and animal manure as far from shoreline as possible.
- Establish shoreline vegetation (grasses; wildflowers; perennials; shrubs).
- Do not put grass clippings in the lakes.
- Throughout the entire watershed, properly dispose of petroleum and lubricant products.
- If replacing a seawall, consider replacing with a natural plant buffer.
- Read pesticide warnings before using; including common household pesticides.
- Use phosphorus-free soap to wash vehicles, boats, etc. (Be aware of what drains into the lakes).
The Lakes Committee is dedicated to Environmental Sustainability which is the responsibility to conserve natural resources and protect our ecosystems to support health and wellbeing, now and in the future. Looking beyond the waters of our lakes in Sugar Springs, the ecosystem is vast, and all Sugar Springs members can have a positive influence.
